"…he had the audacity to break one of the most substantial barriers that exists in our country and elect a woman as his Vice President." - Vice President Elect, Kamala Harris
The soul of our nation was (is) at stake. There have been countless moments of surrealness in this year alone - is this really happening? Did that really happen? Are we in the twilight zone? What is life anymore? While tragedy and heartache are a given in life, it seemed like the opportunity for prevention of the tragedies we have witnessed in 2020 was simply ignored. Or perhaps our worlds had become so unhinged that our cups of empathy, compassion, and consideration ran empty. The soul of our nation was (is) at stake. Again.
I have been reading Kamala Harris' book The Truths We Hold for a few months now (no judgement please, I've had a LOT of other reading to do). I have had the book for about a year - however it became a top priority for me to read once she was nominated for VP. I needed to know more about her story outside of the headlines and in her own words.
Her story is motivating, an inspiration and a reminder of true hard work, true leadership and true compassion - the ingredients that can help shift a nation, and maybe save its soul. I’m about 70% finished and inspired AF.
"Dream with ambition, lead with conviction, and see yourselves in a way others may not, simply because they've never seen it before, but know that we will applaud you every step of the way."
She directed this to the children of our country; however, it hit home for me as well. As I'm on this new journey, I'm being reminded that no matter how old you are, how established you are, it's important to keep your heart and mind open for the opportunities to become a better version of yourself. Continued growth and developing new behaviors that enhance your light is an inspiration; if we are all on this path, perhaps the soul of our nation can be saved.
The people have spoken. There is much work to be done. Hope is restored. Inspiration is high.
